Woody Invasive Species Removal for Hunter and Angler Access at Ionia State Recreation Area

05/18/2024 09:00 AM - 01:00 PM ET

Description

About the project: Join MUCC's OTG program at Ionia State Recreation Area in partnership with the Michigan DNR Parks & Recreation Division in removing woody invasive species to better hunter and angler access. Removing invasive species will allow native plants to grow in their place and create higher quality habitat for a variety of wildlife (e.g., wild turkey, white-tailed deer, cottontail rabbit). Volunteers are needed on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 9 A.M. - 1 P.M. Lunch, gear, and a volunteer appreciation gift will be provided to registered volunteers.

Meeting location: Volunteers will meet at the Ionia State Recreation Area Headquarters and we will then carpool to a nearby hunter parking area where the project will take place.

What to bring: Closed-toed boots, long pants, and a long-sleeved shirt/jacket are highly recommended since we will be working around thorny shrubs. The project will take place rain or shine unless there is severe weather so please dress accordingly. All necessary equipment for the project will be provided.

Registration for the event will close on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 4 P.M. If you need to register after the close date, email sscheitz@mucc.org so the lunch order can be updated.

Please contact MUCC's Habitat Program and Partnerships Coordinator Sarah Scheitz at sscheitz@mucc.org with any questions regarding this event or the OTG program.
